Moving On

This time of year uncertainty is in the air while teachers and school leaders weigh up big decisions for the upcoming academic year. As the TIC representative in Doha I am experiencing first hand just how hard these decisions are for international educators.  I think The Clash summed it up perfectly - Should I Stay or Should I Go?

If you are lucky enough to have made a firm decision to move on next year or you are still weighing up your options (open to suggestion, we'll see, things could change, I have no idea what I am doing!), we thought it was worth sharing two small tips that could have a big impact on your transition and possibly expedite your teaching application. These items may not be necessary for every country, but it certainly does not hurt to have them on file:

  • Obtain a Police Record from the police department in your current location. Be sure it covers the entire time frame you were there and get it stamped by the embassy
  • Obtain a record of teaching and your work experience from your current employer. This should include the percentage of time you worked and type of contract (full time, part time, etc), the subjects and grades, positions held and the start and end date of your employment. This must be on letter head and signed by an official of the organisation

If you are currently overseas, thinking about moving on and have something to add to our list please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Perhaps your aunt’s cousin’s hairdresser’s son who has  taught overseas has something to share. We'd love to hear from you.

Oh! We apologize for putting that song in your head the rest of the day.
