6 of the Best: Why teachers love TIC

Choosing the right recruitment agency is an important part of finding the right job for you. So, how has TIC proved beneficial to teachers and leaders looking for international school jobs? Here are six different reasons…according to six different teachers

1. Preparing the ground, so you know what to expect:

Dulcie Copeland attended a TIC introductory seminar to find out the opportunities and the challenges of teaching in an international school before she made any decision about whether to look for a job abroad. “I received so much help from TIC,” she says. “I attended one of their seminars, which was really useful and helped me to decide that it was time to take the next step.” As a result, Dulcie applied through TIC to The British School of Budapest in Hungary and got the job! “TIC’s interview tips helped focus my mind on what to ask and at what point to ask,” she says. After completing her contract in Hungary, Dulcie was eager to work in another international school, and confident enough to move further afield.  TIC helped her find her next job at Harrow International School in Bangkok, Thailand.

2. Personal and tailored support:

Bruce Ashton, who is currently Headmaster at the International Preparatory School in Mauritius says: “TIC was far more personal in the search than other recruitment agencies. They kept in contact with me and I felt like I was special to them and that they would go the extra mile to secure me a position. Within a couple of emails with TIC I was a finalist in two very good schools. TIC liaised with the school on my behalf and really assisted me in securing the position.”

3. Really knowing the schools:

TIC helped Sarah Curran move from her job in South Wales to the British International School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. “I worked with several members of the TIC team,” says Sarah. “They got to know me well enough that they were able to match me with the right school. They knew the school well and had visited it recently. That gave me great confidence that the school we were talking about was the right match - it gave me a sense of security that was very important.  This job is perfect for me; it fulfils everything I wanted. “The service TIC gave me was completely outstanding.”

4. Responsive when it matters:

Paul Cunningham got his job as Head of Lower School at Harrow International School in Shanghai by applying through TIC. “The speed in which TIC moved on my interest was especially valuable,” he says. “TIC worked with the school to get me in front of them very quickly and the information TIC supplied relating to the school I was going to apply for was highly useful.”

5. Commitment to your needs as a candidate, with no cost:

Ronald Saw, who is working at ABC International School in Vietnam with his partner says: “Watch out for recruitment companies that charge you fees. We used TIC, and even now the staff contact us to check how everything is going. It’s so important to find a recruitment company that will support you through the process.”

6. Advice at every stage of the selection process:

Mhairi Flood-McCaw found her job at Somersfield Academy in Bermuda through TIC. “I really appreciated that the TIC team kept in contact with me during the interview process,” she says. “Their interview tips and advice were very useful. I would definitely use TIC in future...if I can ever leave this beautiful island!”
