Safeguarding in the International School Setting.

Our Commitment at TIC Recruitment

A Shared Commitment to Safeguarding
Safeguarding works best when it is embedded as a culture rather than treated as a compliance exercise. We work in close partnership with schools to ensure safeguarding is consistent, transparent, and aligned with international best practice.
Our role is to strengthen school-led safeguarding processes by ensuring that every candidate we introduce has undergone appropriate checks and has demonstrated a clear understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities.

Supporting Schools Through Robust Safeguarding Processes
TIC Recruitment supports schools throughout their safeguarding and safer recruitment processes. While schools retain full responsibility for final appointment decisions, we help ensure that safeguarding checks are thorough, documented, and appropriate for the international context.

Our recruitment support includes assistance with the following safeguarding measures:

  • Identity verification
  • Enhanced police checks (or equivalent) from current and previous countries of residence
  • Right-to-work verification
  • Full employment history review, including explanations for any gaps in employment
  • Professional reference checks, with safeguarding-specific questions
  • Safeguarding declarations signed by candidates
  • Verification of teaching qualifications and professional registrations

We recognise that police clearance systems and documentation requirements vary internationally. Our team works carefully with both candidates and schools to ensure the most robust and relevant evidence is provided, while remaining compliant with local laws and regulations.

Safer Recruitment in an International Context
International recruitment requires a deeper level of scrutiny and coordination. Teachers often bring experience from multiple countries, making careful verification essential. TIC Recruitment applies consistent safeguarding expectations across all regions, helping schools navigate differences in documentation without compromising standards.
Safeguarding is considered at every stage of recruitment — from initial screening and interviews through to appointment and onboarding support.

Supporting Teachers and Professional Conduct
Safeguarding is not only about checks; it is about professional behaviour, awareness, and accountability. We actively encourage teachers to understand safeguarding expectations when working internationally and to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct.
By promoting transparency, honesty, and responsibility, we help create safer learning environments for students and stronger professional cultures within schools.

A Non-Negotiable Standard
At TIC Recruitment, safeguarding is a non-negotiable priority. We remain committed to continuous improvement, ongoing review of our processes, and close collaboration with international schools.
By working together, we help ensure that safeguarding remains robust, consistent, and uncompromising — wherever in the world a school operates.

Protecting children and young people is everyone’s responsibility, and at TIC Recruitment, it is central to who we are and how we work.

At TIC we work closely with Encompass Safeguarding who are recognised leaders in providing professional development and training to teachers and schools in the international education sector. For further information or support, please contact them via their website: www.encompass-safeguarding.com
