Welsh teachers given opportunity to teach overseas – seminar helps them consider the options

Recent proposals for school closures in South Wales have renewed uncertainty about the future jobs of many Welsh teachers and leaders. But redundancies often have a silver lining, and can encourage teachers to look for options they may never have considered before.

A Penarth-based teacher recruitment company is supporting more Welsh teachers and leaders than ever before with fully qualified teaching jobs abroad.

Teachers International Consultancy (TIC) is one of the world’s leading specialists in international school recruitment. The company works with some of the leading international schools around the globe and finds jobs for fully qualified teachers and leaders, not only from the UK but also from such countries as Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the United States. The company’s service is completely free for teachers.

“Teaching in an international school is a great way for teachers to develop their teaching practices,” says Managing Director of TIC, Andrew Wigford. “All the learning is conducted in English. You are working alongside fully qualified and experienced teachers from the best countries for education in the world, you’re experiencing different approaches to learning and teaching, you’re developing such skills as teaching EOSL (English as a second or other language), and it gives you the chance to live in some amazing places. There are now over 7,000 international schools in virtually every country of the world. When our teachers return to the UK, they return with new skills, confidence and a renewed passion for education.”

Welsh teachers needn't worry about giving up their life in Wales. Many international school contracts are for one or two years. Andrew, and his wife Angie, were teachers in the UK before moving abroad to teach internationally. They taught and held leadership positions in international schools in Austria, Germany and Colombia before returning to jobs in Wales.

Due to the increased school closures in South Wales, TIC is hosting a free informational seminar in Penarth on Saturday 25th October for Welsh teachers and leaders interested to find out more about international teaching jobs.
